Now
that we have another new boat, Adventure Antigua offers
four regular tours and many different private tour or charter options.
Each boat has been carefully designed to suit each tour
that we do. The Eco Tour,
The Xtreme Circumnav, The Antigua Classic Yacht, and The Classic Catamaran Tour (coming soon to Pinapple and The Verandah Hotels).
The
Eco-Tour - This tour is also famously known as "Eli's Eco Tour". Using
our open 52 foot powercat designed to get into shallow
waters and tight reefy spots. Here is a little video of the tour:
Local Antiguan and former Olympian Eli Fuller grew up
on the North coast of Antigua, spending most of his
spare time boating, windsurfing, snorkeling and diving
in the pristine eco-system of the North Sound area.
His knowledge and love of these unspoiled waters, with
their mangrove and reef habitats, prompted the design
of his famous Eco-Tour which has now been running for
over six years and is the benchmark for eco tours in
the region.
Eli's aim has always been to make everyone
who comes on the tour feel like they have spent the
day with old friends and his crew is proud to claim
that the personal attention they lavish on guests would
not be surpassed if they really were family members
from abroad.
The emphasis of the tour is on the ecology
and history of the area. The warm, clear waters, protected
by over twenty little islands, countless reefs, flats
and mangrove nurseries are always calm and there are
perfect opportunities for spotting some of the local
residents, including Turtles, Frigate Birds, Herons,
Pelicans, Spotted Eagle Rays, Sting Rays, Barracuda,
Osprey, Turns, Noddies, Laughing Gulls, and the beautiful
Tropic Birds. The crew will talk about local flora and
fauna and the interesting scientific turtle project
at Jumby Bay, and guests will be entertained by their
anecdotes and stories of local history and folklore.
During the tour guests have the opportunity
to participate in a variety of activities. Before lunch,
a snorkeling lesson will be given for those who have
not snorkeled before or who want a refresher. All equipment
is supplied and crew members will accompany both guided
snorkeling sessions after lunch. For those who wish
to enjoy spectacular views of the North Sound and the
north coast of Antigua, we recommend taking the easy
nature trail from the beach at Great Bird Island, up
to the summit, and if you really want to get off the
"beaten track" there will also be a chance
to explore a cave. However, if you simply want to relax,
there is plenty of shade on the boat and of course,
easy ladders for those of you who fancy a refreshing
dip. There is also a chance to bathe in the natural
jacuzzi at Hell's Gate island. And throughout the day
there will lots of time to take those souvenir photos
that will make you the envy of your friends back home!
Local fruit juices like Passion, Tamarind, Guava, and
Lime are available throughout the day and the delicious
lunch is served on the boat while it is moored in one
of the breathtaking bays of Bird Island. As the tour
draws to a close and the boat heads home into the setting
sun, Eli's "secret recipe" rum punch is presented
to make a perfect end to a perfect day.
The boat itself is extremely spacious
and comfortable and has a fresh water shower and a restroom.
Numbers on the tour are deliberately kept low to enhance
the feeling of luxury Eli wants his guests to experience.
You will leave this tour feeling that
you have been welcomed into a very special community
of the most privileged visitors to Antigua and Barbuda:
those who have had a taste of what is really means to
have grown up in the islands, and have been let into
the "secrets of the North Sound".
The
Xtreme Circumnav - Using
our 45 ft offshore racing boat, specifically designed
for our excursion.
Eli Fuller of Adventure Antigua designed another Adventure to match his
wildly popular Eco-Tour. You have probably heard all
about the Eco-Tour which was designed to be a re-creation
of Eli's childhood days, spent exploring the secret
spots of the North Sound. This new Xtreme tour takes
adventurers right around Antigua's rugged, 365 beach
coastline. Count them if you can!
Eli developed this tour to stay within
the same theme of his famous Eco-Tour, but to be different
enough for you to enjoy both on the same vacation. Here is
a short promo film to see. While its loading turn off the
volume and read the rest of the description below. After
remember to turn back on the volume and click to see it
again....:
The main highlights of this Xtreme adventure, making it
totally unique, are the high speed Miami Vice style
run, through the amazing islands of the north sound
with its myriad coral reefs, the Stingray City Marine
Park swim where you can have your picture taken actually
holding one of these ancient and beautiful fish; the
Robinson Crusoe style, buffet lunch at Green Island
with your toes in the water; the tour of Nelson's Dockyard
with your own on-board local historian; the guided snorkel
trip at the awesome Pillars of Hercules with its volcanic
boulders below the surface, and the swim and beach combing
at the extremely secluded and beautiful Rendezvous Bay.
This tour is done within the same timeframe as the Eco-Tour,
and we manage to do this because our newest boat is
FAST. Between stops our new boat will race you past
the beaches and shores of Antigua so you'd better be
a quick counter to get the 365!
There are however a few things you have
to keep in mind before you decide to go on this tour
because, like the Eco-Tour, this tour is not for everyone.
1) The boat is a high performance 45-foot power boat
using three, eco-friendly, 225hp Four Stroke Yamaha
engines that sip fuel. Top cruise speed is an exhilarating
40 MPH which we will be doing passing the islands of
the North Sound. If you "feel the need for speed"
then this will be your favorite part of the trip! But
if high speed thrills have never been your thing, then
you would definitely be happier on the slower paced
Eco-Tour.
2) Although the boat has been designed for offshore
racing, the 5 mile run from Stingray City to our Lunch
Spot on the North of Green Island could be a little
"bumpy" for some. This tour is not recommended
if you are preganant. However,
if you are the extreme kind of person who likes some
excitement and wants to experience what an offshore
powerboat race feels like then the spray of this wild,
open water section will keep you smiling.
3) This isn't the booze cruise your parents did in the
"good old days". If you are "young at
heart" (and not "faint of heart") it
could just be the thrill of a lifetime. With five stops along the 50 miles run around the island this tour is action packed.
So if you are up for some extreme action
and are loving the idea of getting into the water with
dozens of very friendly rays (they will come up and
touch you!!), and if the image of that 40mph burst past
the islands of the North Sound, and the adventurous
ride in the Atlantic - if all this turns you on
then you are an ideal candidate for the Xtreme adventure!
.. And speaking about booze, we do serve our famous
Eco-Tour rum punch, but only at the end of the tour
when the adventure is drawing to a close.
Our new Xtreme adventure is unbeatable
as a way to see the coastline of our beautiful island
and it could definitely be the most fun you have ever
had on a holiday excursion.
Snorkeling gear, food and drinks are provided.
The Antigua Classic Yacht - Using our newest boat which is a 40 foot wooden classically built Carriacou Sloop. (view more info and photos on our dedicated sailing site www.sailing-antigua.com
This tour is once again very characteristic of all tours designed by Eli Fuller. Like The Eco Tour and The Xtreme Circumnav, The Antigua Classic Yacht has themes of history, ecology and adventure. This one takes you deeper into the hisorical experience by leaving you with first hand knowledge of what goes into building one of these magnificent vessels. The classic design of the sailing vessel has been maintained by passionate boat builders since the design was born on the Island of Carriacou back in the 1600s. At that time Scottish boat builders were brought in by plantation owners to build very fast freight carriers to help the plantations on these small islands maintain trade with the larger islands. Believe it or not the same boats are being built using the same tradition and expertise today. Built on the beach with local wood cut from local forrests by local decendants who helped build the original boats, these fast work boats can be found in small numbers across the Caribbean fishing, carrying freight, smuggling, doing charters and most particularly racing! We had our Carriacou Sloop, The Ocean Nomad built in the Grenadines on the island of Carriacou being very careful to observe all traditions and designs. We launched her in April of 2008 and very quickly got her ready enough to compete in the famous Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta later that month. Since then she has been properly finished to a standard that can be offered to day sailing guests. Our tour is very simple. You join the Ocean Nomad on the West Coast and sail on a straight reach to Cades Reef where we will snorkel in the clear waters there. From Cades it will be a short motor sail up to the beautiful Carlisle Bay where we will have a delicious Adventure Antigua lunch and watch the turtles which are very common there. After lunch you can relax under the shade of the awning or have a gentle swim while the crew prepares the boat for the leasurly afternoon sail back down to the West coast. On this unique cruise you can decide how much you would like to take part in sailing this classic vessel. We will teach you the basics of sailing as well as give you info about how this historical vessel was built. Private charters and day sailing excursions start this November in time for the start of the winter season.
